These leis are popular as wedding leis because of the fragrance of the ginger flower. The name micronesian was given to this lei as it resembles the tatoo that is around the neck of many of the pacific islanders.
The Polynesians that arrived in the Pacific islands during the first century AD brought many different food and medicinal plants to include ginger which is a fragrant flower still used for decoration and adornment. This lei is created by weaving ribbon with over 60 white ginger buds. As the blooms are exposed to heat they release the scent of the ginger. This lei is approximately 42 inches round.
